Pendleton County, Where the highest point in West Virginia is somewhere you can drive to.Where the drive to anywhere else begins with a mountain.Where you wave at the truck coming the other way, whoever is driving it.Where some of the phone numbers start 540, because Virginia is that close.Where the teenagers have no concept of a toll road.Where the snow shuts the school before the radio gets round to saying so.Where Starlink is the only service that works, on Tuesday at 2:41 in the afternoon.Where the county was made in 1788 out of pieces of three others.Where the courthouse is the fourth one, because the third burned along with most of Main Street.Where there is a vet on North Main, which matters more than you think if you travel with a dog.Where there is a cidery, a distillery, and a trail that joins them up.Where one town is incorporated and the rest simply are.
