Pendleton County, Where the inn on eighty acres feeds you dinner and breakfast and expects you to stay put.Where the hardware store, the bank and the courthouse are all on the same street.Where the courthouse is the fourth one, because the third burned along with most of Main Street.Where the first frost is a subject, not a forecast.Oakwood Estates, where the rocks in the road are bigger than your truck.Where the highest point in West Virginia is somewhere you can drive to.Where a gravel road is not a lesser road.Where a good spring is worth more than a good well.Where Fort Seybert is a place, a date, and a thing people still bring up.Where the schools are the Wildcats and the Braves, and that covers all of them.Where the garden goes in when the ground says so, not when the calendar does.Where 696 square miles are shared between about six thousand people.
