Pendleton County, Where you can build a home and the only inspection you need is for the septic tank.Where a motel office is inside the pizza place next door.Where the hardware store, the bank and the courthouse are all on the same street.Where the deer are a hazard, a full freezer, and a conversation.Spruce Knob, perhaps the closest some of us will get to Heaven.Where the county clinic will see you the same day if you are sick.Where the schools are the Wildcats and the Braves, and that covers all of them.Where the Lutheran parish is five churches and one of them is here.Where the garden goes in when the ground says so, not when the calendar does.Where the pizza is upstairs and the view out of the window is Seneca Rocks.Where one pastor serves three Methodist congregations and gets to all of them.Where somebody’s cattle will be in the road, and it will be fine.
